So tired

I love this song, and it is so how I am feeling tonight.

Lord I'm so tired, So tired from walking, And Lord I'm so alone, And Lord the dark, Is creeping in, Creeping up, To swallow me

I think I'll stop, Rest here a while, And didn't You see me cry'n?, And didn't You hear me call Your name? Wasn't it You I gave my heart to?

I wish You'd remember, Where you sat it down, And this is all that I can say right now, i know it's not much, And this is all that I can give, yeah that's my everything

I didn't notice You were standing here, I didn't know that, That was You holding me, I didn't notice You were cry'n too, I didn't know that, That was You washing my feet

And this is all that I can say right now, i know it's not much, and this is all that I can give, yeah that's my everything

My everything

p.s. If you are reading but have not heard the song, you should really listen to it. It is so beautiful!

The talk of the town

Oh..the excitement might be too much for me to bear!! It's the talk of the town that it might snow here in NC this coming weekend, have you heard?

We tend to get a little crazy 'round these parts about the prospect of snow, so it does get a litte exciting as the media coverage begins to mount.  The grocery stores get bombarded, and schools start delaying/cancelling class due to anticipatory snow!  Strangers even ask you, "Ya ready for the snow?" at the local grocery store as you are grabbing the last loaf of bread and gallon of milk that will surely save your life in the event of a pure blizzard. Sadly, 80% of the time the excitement is short-lived and we hardly ever see any fluffy, white stuff. Oh...but we can hope in the meantime...

(See the snow on the deck?)

And, hopeful we are.... for the possibility of a snow day. The SNOW hoopla has officially started. It may or may not snow here this Friday and Saturday~WOO HOO! Promise I will keep you posted on the pending precipiation. (Was that unintentional alliteration?) ;)

Alive and Well and Au Naturale

Whew...It has been a while since I've posted on my beloved blog. Better late than never, I am here and I am alive and well for the most part. Were you worried about lil' ol me?

SO much has been going on...let's see. Here's a quick re-cap.

Chris graduated and I was blown away with so much pride, was incredibly happy for him, felt blessed to be his wife, and was just over the top excited about this new, excited journey that he is about to embark on. Here is another picture from the day.

Graduation Day
(uh, I love this pic, but really wish I was standing up straight. Sigh)

Yes, we both felt the need to show ALL of our teeth in this picture. ;)

We have spent the last two weeks enjoying being back together as a family of four for a little while. Daddy was home to help Dylan with his science project

Which Choice of Beverage Stains Your Teeth the Most?

...and although the kids and I have had school, we have still had a ton of time to catch up and have some semblance of normal before he heads to a whole 'nother state..... in just a few days.

We have also been very busy making a list and checking it twice, trying to get everything ready for his move. It will be a major change for him to work 588 miles (but who's counting) away from us. We visited the lovely Midwest this past weekend, and me-oh-my was it ever COLD? Really? My deciduous nature has been taking a toll on me already this year, and I am just talking about NC-ish winters. It has been cold here (according to my sunny, southern standards).

But in OHIO, it was COLD. C-O-L-D.....Seriously, this state takes cold, long winter days, and shades of gray...to a totally different level of WINTER! Eeeeeeck!

On a positive note, the kids loved that they could literally have a snow-ball fight at every rest-area that we stopped at during the trip. Also, WV was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful......except for the rest-area we stopped at that was actually an OUT-HOUSE! It was like a scene right out of a horror movie! Eeeeeckkk~No kidding. That's a whole other post in itself.

All these details that we have been working on to get him ready for a new city, new job, new career.....have left me a little stressed and majorly anxious. I find it a tad-bit ironic that my first Therapeutics exam this semester covers all the prescription anxiety medications. I really could have benefited from those drugs the last few weeks, but I am crazy and incredibly proud to say I am dealing with all this change/chaos/commotion sans drugs, au naturale. Yep, go me.

I am hoping to be able to blog more, as soon as things calm down around here! I am off to study anxiety and depression and ponder future conversations that I may or may not be having with my doctor. It might go something like this
"Yo, Doc, can't a girl get a Xanax already?!"
I'm just kidding....kinda.

My Me Time (a list by Karsen)

Today, after I got home from school I was running around the house, doing my usually chores, hustling here and there, striking things from my mental to-do list....trying to squeeze in one more thing before I ran to pick the kids up from school. You know the drill.

I began tidying the coffee table in the family room, which for whatever reason is a total magnet for chaos (and subsequently is a source of anxiety for me) everyday of my life on most days.

I picked up one of Karsen's stocking stuffer gifts from Christmas, a little hot pink Jonas Brothers notebook. I noticed that she had written in it, so I glance at the first page and this is what I see.... in her very own, super sweet, barely 8 year old hand-writing.

My Me List
A list by Karsen
aka KGK

1. Yoga
2.  Nap
3. Book
4.  Beach ball
5.  Clean room
6.  Play with DS
7.  Charge DS
8.  Mabey go swimming

I could not help but smile as I read her super-carefully, handwritten words. Instantly, I missed her like crazy. It has been an adjustment to get back into our normal school routines, and I have honestly missed them during the day. Secondly, Yoga? lol and I was wondering where in the world she was mabey going swimming when we have not had daily temps above freezing here in NC for well over a week. Lastly, I had a moment where I just wanted to cry because I thought my heart would surely bust wide open.

 Karsen, 4

I love our little girl so much. What a perfectly, simple and precious list. I was tempted to tear it out and keep it forever, but I left it in her journal. I closed it, and put it back where it was. Hoping and praying that it is moments like this I will remember and keep snapshots of in my heart and head...because our kids are really growing up so fast. In a blink of an eye, she is 8, and making lists (like she has surely seen me do), and likes the Jonas Brothers, and is.....

Karsen, 7

Then I realized the reason why I started blogging in the first place. And I knew I just had to come and re-write her list here. Consider this memory captured and forever preserved.

We forgot the collard greens!

Happy New Year! We did not have any earth-shattering plans last night. Don't tell anyone, but we actually went to bed at about 12:02 am +/- 45 seconds. Are we party-poopers, or what?

I have always heard that what you do on New Years Day is what you can look forward to doing all year.
I hope that's not the case. We had a pretty good day for the most part, so if some aspects of our day repeat that would be ok by me.

Thumbs up to repeating:
  1. Sleeping in
  2. Eating a late, leisurely breakfast
  3. Shopping with my mother-in-law
  4. Finding Chris a new suit and coat that were both on sale YAY!
  5. Eating dinner at our favorite italian restaraunt and getting canolis TO GO!
Thumbs down to repeating:
  1. Getting upset this morning about what may or may not happen in the next year
  2. Seeing the weather forecast that "unrealistic cold" temps are coming our way.....(Hurry May!)
  3. Dealing with Dylan's awful allergies all day long...
  4. Looking around wondering when the Christmas decorations will be put up
  5. Forgetting to eat collards and ham hocks~to bless a new and prosperous year! Whoops!
All in all, it was a good day to start the year. Our family is together, healthy (besides the allergies and monster cold that Chris is fighting), and blessed beyond measure. Good think we have no plans whatsoever tomorrow and can rest up before going back to a little place called REALITY.  It will be back to school (!!!) for all of us on Monday. So, we are kicking back and enjoying the downtime while it lasts.  Here's to a wonderful 2010 despite not eating the requisite collard greens and black-eyed peas! Time to attack the canolis!
